I am a caring cat owner and I make an effort to do what is right for my cat. She has consistently loved wet foods however not too long ago began to shy away from it. I wondered what was wrong… does she be suffering with a tummy upset perhaps or does she purely no longer like the flavour? A trip to the vets, which coincided with her yearly vaccinations led to the exposure that my precious moggie had a significant accumulation of plaque and tartar on her teeth. Furthermore, her gums became so painful that they seemed to be nearly on the stage of bleeding! Naturally, I was mortified. Our lovely cat was avoiding her food simply because she was essentially in pain eating the stuff! So what could I do to remedy the situation? Well, the veterinarian advised that she could have her teeth cleaned tomorrow by a veterinarian registered nurse. However, he told me that this is often stressful for nervous felines and not something that should be continued on a regular basis.
The vet suggested a 2nd solution, which to me was much more straight forward and rather simple; to change the meals I’d been providing from wet food to dry. Now, I had previously regarded dry cat food as an inferior option. After all, I do not eat dried meat so why should my cat? However, it turns out that a high quality dry cat food is in fact a lot better for a moggy versus stuff you’ll get out of a tin or foil pouch. The abrasive nature of dry cat food basically acts like a mini tooth brush inside your cat’s mouth.
And so, I chose a large sack of dry chicken food and headed back home. I had been unsure of exactly how my cat might respond but as she had received a large dose of painkillers along with a really empty stomach she hardly seemed to notice the change. In fact, she gobbled down the entire bowl. I have kept her on the dry foods and now have discovered a fantastic manufacturer who produces dry food loaded full of various meats (cats require greater amounts of protein than dogs). Right now, whenever We have her teeth checked the reaction is good. They’re much cleaner than before plus the moggy is significantly happier, so it’s dry food for our cat from now on.
