Chicken Coop Plans and my Uncle Dave. Well my uncle decided to take up chicken keeping as his latest hobby. His children loved animals so he knew that if he bought some chickens they would be very happy. Plus there would be lovely fresh organic eggs for the whole family.

Some people let their chickens out on a daily basis, thus have made a good bit of money on the side selling free range chicken eggs. Thus the money you have had to spend setting up your chicken coup can be regained.. This is a way to make some profit..

Before he bought the chickens he decided to look around so he could purchase a chicken coop, however, when he saw the prices he thought he would be better off building one himself so started his investigations for chicken coop plans and designs.

He wanted a plan that was clear and easy to follow. He also felt that the children would enjoy watching the plan unfold and be involved at every step.

Uncle Dave’s research brought up things like how to control ventilation, climate and appearance using different floor structures and materials. The problem with dirt floors and how to fix them, and many other ‘must know’ factors on building chicken housing.

Chicken safety was a particular aspect to keep in mind. Chickens actually need quite a lot of protection from predators such as snakes, foxes, possoms, racoons etc. You will also need to ensure that the chicken wire is securely fastened to the coup for their safety.

Another factors to take into consideration is which is the best bedding to use? A few people said that sawdust is soft and makes great bedding, and that sawdust is easier to clean and will absorb the odor longer. Some people are not so happy with this choice as the chickens can scratch the sawdust from the pen and may get the dust in their eyes.. Eventually, they decided that straw was easier to clean and felt this would work best for the chickens.

Financial cost was the major decision for uncle deciding to build his chicken coop, the savings would be substantial, probably over 50%. He needed a plan where he could use his own tools. Uncle Dave has a lot of tools in his garage so felt he could use these to build his coop.

Uncle needed a step by step plan and some ‘know how’ on choosing the right breed of chicken for his needs.

So, if you would like to take advantage of some of his findings such as:

1. Simple tips on how to set-up your building site and select your materials that will make building quick and easy.

2. Correct ventilation to prevent harmful ammonia and carbon dioxide buildup in your chicken house.

3. How to build top class chicken housing that is easy to clean, even automatically collects eggs.

4. The 9 daily, monthly and yearly chores you must perform to keep your chickens healthy, happy and laying eggs.
