#1. Have Patience. You can’t rush this process. You’ll need to go at the pace your puppy is going to progress at. Use smart training techniques can speed up the process, but you’ll need patience.

#2. Be methodical. Find yourself a good plan. There are several strategies that are popular. Find one that works for you and follow the plan to the letter.

#3. Be consistent. If several people are involved in training your puppy, you had all better stick to the same methods or you’ll just confuse your puppy.

#4. Devote sufficient time. Let’s face it… it’s going to take time and dedication. Can you make sure there’s going to be a family member available pretty much round the clock?

#5. Deal with accidents without making a fuss. If your pooch poops or pees on the carpet, there’s no point in ranting at him or her after the event, they won’t understand what your fussing about.

#6. Praise your puppy every time they do what you want them to do. Give them a little play time as well. It’s the fastest way to re-inforce the behaviour you want.

#7. While you’re housebreaking your puppy, it’s best to restrict him or her to a small room until they’re house trained. Ideally it should have an easy to clean floor. It’s for their own safety as well. If you let the pooch have the run of the house, they could chew through an electric cable and hurt themselves. Plus they can pee and poop in hard to clean places.
