Give Rewards Not Punishments
Let me explain this further. Similar to human child, puppies also respond better to rewards and treat than punishments. Whenever your puppy obey your instructions correctly, give him small rewards. Remember you can speak to children in a language they can understand. Yet, your children disobey our orders. However when a dog disobeys your order it is mostly because the dog didn’t get what exactly you want him to do. That means, you need to find better ways of training.
Many times it is found that people hit the dogs nose with magazines or newspaper every time the pet acts naughty. This is completely wrong. In fact this could counter productive. Your dog might have accidentally made a mistake and if you punish him for something which is not his mistake, then the dog will not be motivated to follow your directions anymore. Another common mistake performed by the dog owners is that, they shout at the dog. This will confuse your dogs. Are you screaming because you are happy or are you screaming because you are angry? Be firm in your tone, but do not shout. I am sure everyone who dealt with children knows how to be firm in their commands yet friendly. This holds true for potty training a puppy as well.
Barking Dogs..
Some times you will find that your dog is unnecessarily barking. Before you run to the nearest pet shop to buy a barking collar, please remember that a dog can bark due to many reasons.
