Living with a Havanese is great fun, but it can get routine. Walk, pet, feed, scratch – walk, pet, feed, scratch – it can get a little monotonous. Both you and your Havanese sometimes want to break out of the routine and interact in fun ways. Havanese love being the center of attention (as you’ve probably noticed). What better way of making your dog the star by taking Havanese pictures.

Since your Havanese is a rare breed, that unfortunately makes him or her a target for dog thieves. And, being mischievous, Havanese can suddenly decide their yard isn’t big enough and decide to take a stroll around town. One of the best ways to assure that your lost Havanese comes back to you (besides a collar and microchipping) is to always have current pictures on had, taken every six months at least. So protect your pet, get great photos to show off and have fun with your dog in taking Havanese pictures.

You can get great Havanese pictures by getting down on your elbows and knees – more on level with your dog. This will have your dog fill up the frame and be more in proportion. When you are standing and aim the camera down at your Havanese, your dog will wind up looking like a huge fluffy head and tiny body. Of course, these Havanese pictures are pretty funny, but do not accurately portray what your dog looks like.

To make your dog stand out better, make sure the background is a contrasting color to the color of your dog. In other words, a light colored dog will look best against a dark background. To see what I mean, look at a photo of a light colored dog against a white or ivory background. It can be hard to distinguish the dog from the rest of the photo, can’t it? With practice, you’ll get a better sense of background color.

If you don’t have a helper to keep a squirmy puppy still, then you need to trick the pup into staying still enough for you. You just might have to do a lot of quick moving about to fit the pup’s face into your frame. Get a small amount of food in a shallow, heavy bowl (pups like to push!) to keep the pup still for at least half a minute for a clear shot.

As your dog gets used to these sessions, you can have some fun with them. As long as you make it fun for the dog with praise, treats and petting, they will enjoy posing for you. You can dress them up, put them with funny props and just let your imagination go. This is also a great way to reinforce basic obedience training. And your Havanese pictures will be proof that you live with a canine superstar.

This is but one of many articles to help dog owners get the most out of the relationship with their dogs, including how to take Havanese pictures. This author participates in many forums for dog lovers hoping to find the latest Havanese information to share with his/her readers.
